Spectromill® Ball Pestle Impact Grinders
The SpectroMill® operates on the principle of energetically propelling a sample substance together with one or more ball pestles contained in a contoured-interior SpectroVial® to opposite ends of a figure-8 path of travel configuration. Comminution is effected by the collision of the ball pestle with the ends of the vial that also imparts a mulling action as the ball pestle follows the contour of the vial. A variable vial clamping mechanism accepts a wide range of optionally available SpectroVial grinding vessels. The comminution and blending processes are controlled by the hardness of the sample substance, quantity, time, hardness and volumetric capacity of the vial and number of ball pestles.
The device is engineered to provide maximum stability for counter top operation and is relatively quiet in operation. For multiple sample preparations, an optionally available SpectroVial® Adapter enables several similar or dissimilar samples to be concurrently processed. Equipped with state-of-the-art shock absorbing materials and a solid-state electronic timer with an LCD display and audible alarm alerting to completion of the processing cycle.
SpectroMills are available in two versions: SpectroMill-I has one variable vial clamping mechanism that will accommodate single samples and SpectroMill-II is equipped with two variable vial clamping mechanism for handling two samples at the same time. However, in both versions use of a SpectroVial Adapter expands its utility to simultaneous processing of multiple samples.
